An Entrepreneurial Visit: Kevin “Kayo” Orsino
February 20, 2018
On Monday, February 12, 2018, Apex United Corporation had the pleasure of meeting Kevin “Kayo” Orsino: an entrepreneur, networker, publicist, and marketer for many top entertainers in the music industry. Throughout his career, Kayo’s energy, drive, and passions have propelled him into success creating opportunities even with an unfortunate heart condition standing in his way. His ability to cross market several brands and their products that directly benefit his clients have single-handedly aided his initiatives to become a networking machine. The insight and knowledge we have received will benefit how we think not only as a marketing team but as a business as well.
“Facebook is saturated compared to Instagram,” states Kevin, when speaking in comparison to Instagram. “I value time, not money,” he added when detailing how creative videos drive the most traffic on social media today but warns us not to overload Instagram with them. Daily posts containing a good mix of organic pictures with subtle advertisement content peppered throughout the page would be the best recipe for our DriveSmart Warranty marketing strategy. Kayo also strongly urged us to get outside as much as we can. He believes the creative process is best stimulated with inspiration from the outside surroundings, not while being stuck in an office environment.
Kevin Orsino has successfully overhauled and revamped local Florida rapper Bezz Believe‘s social media standing, extending his reach to well over 131,000 followers, averaging over 3,500 likes and 150 comments per post. Kevin’s most distinguished entertainer that he works alongside with is the NBA’s very own Shaquille O’Neal. If you don’t watch television, go on social media, or get outside at all you may not have seen Shaq’s current presence in America’s mainstream media. Most noticeably, Shaq has just become a spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Lines. A skit that introduces the 7’1″ star as their brand new CFO (Chief Fun Officer) who stood apart “head-and-shoulders-and-chest above the rest.” Ever since his retirement in 2011, Shaq has been as busy as ever endorsing products for Gold Bond, IcyHot, Vitamin Water, and The General car insurance.
Along with Shaquille O’Neal’s endorsements, he is the owner and operator of his own music label Shaq Fu Radio which alone has endless brands advertising over its medium. Shaq has also partnered with Full Sail University giving Kayo the opportunity to work with the next generation’s upcoming musical talent. Students are able to work on valuable real-life projects for Shaq Fu Radio while receiving credit from their university. For in depth projects, they are able to involve students and their teachers and pay them for their services at a fraction of the price a studio firm would charge. Most impressively, starting in September 2018 Shaquille O’Neal will incorporate his own courses into Full Sail University’s curriculum. The program will be called Shaq’s School of Branding and Marketing which will depict the insights from an All Star’s career full of endorsements, public speaking events, and the ownership of several companies. They will use partnerships and scholarships to help students with the cost of tuition while providing students with electric bicycles to best transport students around campus.
The expertise and insights Kayo has absorbed throughout his career are traits that have shaped the professional we met to give our marketing department a leg up to the competition. We have learned that strategic partnerships, reputation management, and community outreach are all essential parts of an organization’s success and will be the theme of how we operate going forward. The marketing team at Apex United Corporation would like to personally thank Kevin “Kayo” Orsino for taking the time to speak with us and giving great insights. We hope to see him in our corner again soon.
